We are all quite familiar with the traffic signs in our country, the popular ones at least.
How many signs can you think of? 15? Or maybe 20?
As it happens there are a total of 63 traffic signs in India!
Are the ones in our list going to be a challenge for you? See how many of them you recognise right away!
- Loose Gravel:
Not a very common sign but quite important to keep note of. Loose gravel can mean skidding cars and dangerous stretches. Keep an eye out for these when you’re traveling!
- Slippery Road:
Now while this particular sign looks like a U.F.O. taking off, it is actually to warn you about slippery roads. Oil spills and wet roads can lead to less than ideal driving conditions. Be wary!
- Cycle Crossing:
This is a rare sign to come across and perhaps many of you would not have seen it, but like pedestrian crossings there are many routes where there are dedicated crossings for cycles.
- Falling Rocks:
If you’ve driven to hill stations then you’ve probably seen this sign. It represents falling rocks. The best solution is to avoid such routes all together and find an alternate route to reach your destination safely.
- No Stopping Or Standing:
This is an important sign and is often found on freeways. It stands for no stopping or standing. It is one of the most welcome signs on the road and you will not find traffic on these roads unless there is a mishap of some sort.
- Barrier Ahead:
This sign is erected in if there is a gate controlling the entrance to a road. It is generally accompanied with a text sign telling you what kind of barrier it is, like slow barrier, toll barrier etc.
- Dangerous Dip:
If the profile of the road can cause considerable discomfort to the traffic because of a steep dive in surface, you are informed with the ‘Dangerous Dip’ sign.
Not every road has a red light, some have this sign instead. Have you ever come across this sign?
If you did, did you know you had to “STOP”?
- Give Way:
You will mostly see this sign on intersections and crossings. It means you need to slow down or stop if required and allow the other vehicles to pass in order to prevent any mishaps.
This is a very interesting sign and it stands for being ready for the road, well informed about garage services and how to avail them. It’s the Carworkz logo! You might not come across this on the road but you should download it anyway because it’s how you Get Servicing Right!
We hope that the next time you come across any of these signs (or the other 54) you are informed enough to follow them so that the roads are safer for you and for others.
It’s important for us to stay informed about these basic rules regulations and signs that are put up for nothing else but our safety. So, stay informed and drive safe!
